I do not recommend the services of SOIT. Unfortunately, the immigrants arriving in Québec City are automatically referred to this organisation.

In 2003, when I arrived in Québec, I participated in their "orientation sur le marche de travail". It took a few days and what is all boiled down to was the suggestion of looking for a simple job not related to my education and work experience.

Later, I tried to contact them a few times in order to participate in their "atelier du recherche d'emploi", but they did't reply to my messages. I also tried to pass my CV to them, so that it would be available for potential employers - this was also futile.

Finally, I tried to find out information about internships ("stages") at enterprises of Quebec City, about which I'd read in the press. I e-mailed and phoned a certain Mme Carole Chassé, who keeps my file, but she flatly denied to give me any information, just saying that "there'is no work for translators here" and that "these interships are for people having specific skills".

A number of other immigrants, with whom I had contacts (in the French course at Université Laval), also had bad experiences of SOIIT.

Fortunatelly, there are other, more useful organisations, such as Le Centre du placement de l'Université Laval, Centre Multi-Ethnique de Québec, and Centre R.I.R.E. 2000.
